I was very disappointed to hear that KU has applied to raise the monthly service charge 53%.  I have been working on trying to save electricity, partly motivated by efforts of KU.  I paid for them to do an energy audit, had a device put on my air conditioner at their request, and am using energy efficient bulbs that they provided.  I even spent $5,000 installing an energy-efficient heat pump.  Raising  the service charge as opposed to just the kilowatt-hour charge is counterproductive and punishes people like me who are really trying to conserve energy.
