Susan Stivers 423 Kingswood Lexington, KY Phone: E-Mail: This comment is made in response to KAWC's request for a residential increase in the rate the customers of KAWC pay for their water. KAWC's request was for 30.24%, but the actual effect will be 30.60%. (stated in their application). This 30.60% increase is too high. The German Co, REW, wanted to own the water company in Lexington. KAWC misrepresented itself to its customers in its bid to own the public service company providing water to Lexington and surrounding areas. The only way KAWC can increase its profits (for its shareholders) is to increase its customer base. To increase its customer base KAWC has to build (customers get the bill!) a new larger plant. Of course, KAWC did not mention this “little detail” when it was feeding its customers all the misinformation about employees losing jobs, etc. when the city wanted to maintain ownership of the public water company. Now KAWC (or its German shareholders) want the customers to pay for building a new water plant so the shareholders can earn a higher dividend. Let the shareholders build the new plant from their 12% dividends if they want to earn more.
